I never really leave a review but this had to happen: *trigger warning- chewed food pictures* We ordered Jyoti’s butter chicken on DoorDash no more than an hour ago. Half way through eating the order my husband chews a bit on what he thinks is rubbery chicken to find out it’s a curled bandage. We call the restaurant and am first told there is no manager present this evening, then am moved around from person to a final person that claims no one on their team has a band aid or cuts in their hand. So it’s either old food from back when someone did have a cut, or they are lying. Either way this is entirely unacceptable, and disgusting. Though he agrees to approve a refund through DoorDash, but so far thats still pending. I am immune compromised.. so we are just hoping this isn’t something that gets me sick as well. We will not be returning, and don’t recommend to anyone else. Bad and unsafe food, and poor customer service. (The bandage has been soaked in the sauce and it so hard to even tell, you can see the strands from the first picture)

Hands down, this is the best Indian restaurant in the entire DC area. I am not kidding. I love Indian food and have tried so many places from hole in the wall to super fancy. There is very good Indian in the area but Jyoti is byfar the most superior. The place is not very fancy but it's nice. Most importantly, the food is always mind blowing. You must have the Saag Paneer!!!! It is a bit difficult to get to because it is in Adams Morgan but believe me it is worth the trek. For a date, I highly recommend this place as a date location with someone you are already comfortable with because you may be sweating a bit with some dishes.

We had a great experience at Jyoti Indian Cuisine. The food was delicious and well prepared, and we were genuinely very curious and excited to try each dish because of how nicely everything was explained to us. And specially her way of talking was very polite, calm, and friendly. She explained the menu patiently, which made us more interested and confident in ordering the food. She checked on us with a smile and made us feel comfortable throughout the visit.

I had one of the worst dining experiences at this restaurant. The staff was extremely unprofessional and the management especially the manager didn’t seem to care at all about customer satisfaction. The food was served cold, and to make things worse, the naan was hard and stale – easily the worst I’ve ever had. What’s even more shocking is the ridiculously high pricing compared to the tiny portions they serve. It genuinely feels like they are cheating customers with inflated prices and low-quality food. Save your money and time. There are far better places out there that actually care about their food and service. I’ll definitely never be coming back here, and I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone.

Food is fine, good service and ambience. Located in a nice street. Just a little tough for parking. Almost all items tasted decent. The portions are very small so you usually end up ordering double than regular restaurants. The price is also very high.

I’ve traveled throughout the US and I love Indian cuisine. This place has been a favorite for years. Highly recommend the Lamb Vindaloo, Masala onions and a side of the green chutney.

Jyoti is a gem in plain sight in the heart of Adams Morgan and a choice resort for Indian cuisine for everyone in DC. It is just a stroll from home for those who live in Adams Morgan, Dupont Circle, or the U and 14th Street neighborhoods of Washington DC. My wife and I have lived in the area for years and we've eaten in the best restaurants of all kinds across DC, the US, and the world, looking for excellence in food and setting, and also a good price. Jyoti has it all, and we often find ourselves walking there despite so many other options. The menu includes a full spectrum of meat, fish, and vegetarian dishes with different styles, including tasty Tikka Masala, Butter Chicken, Thali, and Biryani (I love the Lamb Biryani). Fresh, warm Naan complements all these main dishes, joined by a solid list of cocktails, wine and beer, including surprisingly good house wines offered for a $7 affordable glass and at a steal by the carafe or half carafe. Plus, the restaurant is very cozy and quiet inside and nice out front for watching the ever engaging foot traffic on 18th Street when the weather permits. Service is timely and attentive, and you might have a conversation with the owner, who regularly appears. Make Jyoti your home away from home for Indian food in Washington, DC, and you won't be disappointed!

Jyoti Indian Cuisine is by far one of the best traditional Indian cuisine restaurant in the DC area. As soon you walk in you are greeted with a vibrant atmosphere from the Indian/ modern music playing from the flat screen TV & surrounding speakers, to the painted murals + intricate trinkets hanging on the brick wall, & and warm hospitality from the employees. Our server Madeen was amicable & super helpful in explaining the items on the menu. We started off with the vegetable platter appetizer and included a trio of sauces; tamarind, mango chutney, green chutney. My personal favorite was the mango chutney, with a sweet, pungent spicy kick to it however all of them are rich in flavor. The drinks were great as well, would recommend getting the Alabama Slammer & Mai Tai. As our main course we ordered one of the most popular dishes recommended, the Tandoor Red Snapper along with the Lamb Seekh Kabob and Chicken Biriyani & choose mild as our preferred spice. We also had a side order of a yogurt sauce called Cucumber Raita & Garlic Naan. Not only was the presentation spotless, I kid you not every bite of those dishes did not disappoint. From the creaminess of the sauce served in the lamb, fish was grilled to perfection, & chicken biriyani was also tasty because the rice was blended with these aromatic spices that I am still trying to figure out! Flavors so complex yet it enriches your palette. The Garlic Naan came out fresh and hot, & just paired so well with the refreshing Cucumber Raita. I had the pleasure of meeting with the owner Shiva & I love how hands on he is within the restaurant & his employees. It truly was a lovely experience & definitely would come back to try out their vegetarian options!

I've been dining here for years, so my review is WAY overdue. Outstanding Indian cuisine, engaging, friendly and personal service and nice portions, too! An Adams Morgan landmark. I recommend the vegetable samosas, Tandoori salmon, Goa fish curry, and the chicken biryani. If you're a vegetarian, any of Jyoti's vegetable dishes will be sure to please 🙏.

Jyoti Indian Cuisine in Washington DC transported us to India with its unassuming yet homely ambiance. The simplicity was refreshing, creating an atmosphere that felt just like home. The servers added a warm touch with their exceptional hospitality, making us feel truly welcome. And oh, the food! The experience was nothing short of a gastronomic delight. Our group's all-time favorite, the Chicken Masala, exceeded our expectations. Tender chicken thighs immersed in a rich masala sauce was sheer perfection for the palate. The Beef Seekh Kabab was a triumph, offering a tantalizing blend of Indian spices and succulent meat. Every bite was an adventure of flavors. Venturing into new territory, we explored the Shrimp Tikka and the Lamb Vindaloo. And trust me, disappointment was nowhere to be found. The medley of tastes in each dish left us utterly satisfied. Opting for medium-spiced dishes, we paired our feast with Lassi and Mango Lassi, perfectly balancing the flavors. Every element on the table, from taste to presentation, embodied the spirit of India. With Jyoti Indian Cuisine prepare to be taken on a gastronomic journey that captures the essence of India, right in the heart of Washington DC!
