• FTTP (Fibre to the Premises) – Look for an NBN Connection Box (NCD) inside your home. It’s a white rectangular device with multiple ports. Early FTTP setups may have a second box for battery backup. Fibre-optic cables (thin, transparent, or yellow) run from the street pole or underground pit.
• HFC (Hybrid Fibre Coaxial) – Uses coaxial cables, like cable TV. If your internet runs via a coaxial outlet instead of a phone line, you likely have HFC. NBN HFC services come with a black Arris connection box.
• FTTC (Fibre to the Curb) – Features an NBN Connection Box, typically linked to your phone socket. The box is labelled “FTTC” and includes DSL and Ethernet ports. Fibre reaches a curbside pit, connecting to your home via copper wiring.
• FTTN (Fibre to the Node) – No internal NBN box. Instead, a VDSL2 modem/router connects via a phone line. Fibre runs to a nearby green/grey node, then copper cables complete the connection. Your provider can confirm your type or check online via NBN’s Service Availability tool.
