Redfin just added daycare costs to every listing on their site. And the numbers are wild.
The typical American family now spends 52% of their income on housing and childcare combined. But in Los Angeles? That jumps to 96.8%. Families there are left with just $3,000 a year after paying $94,613 for housing and childcare against a median income of $97,775.
San Francisco households earn $162,118 a year but spend $152,646 of it on those same two costs. Meanwhile, families in Little Rock, Arkansas only spend 39.8% of their income on housing and childcare.
The feature rolls out in September and shows daycare distance, tuition, licensing status, and staff certifications right on the listing page. No more juggling tabs while you search.
