VA loans just hit their highest March share in a decade.
7.7% of home purchases across 40 major metros used VA loans this March. That's up from 6.8% last year and tied with 2020 for the highest March share we've seen. Little to no down payment. No private mortgage insurance. Backed by the Department of Veterans Affairs.
But here's the problem: Over 1,100 service members and veterans were surveyed in January. 59% said they know about VA loans. Fewer than half have actually used one or plan to. Only 16% are familiar with state specific veteran housing resources that stack with VA benefits.
