What size generator do I need for my Austin jobsite or commercial location?
As we kick off a new month, many construction and event companies are gearing up for projects that require temporary power. When electricity isn't available onsite, bringing your own power is essential. But how do you determine what size generator you need?
The key factors are the tools and equipment you'll be running and their wattage draw. Create a list with the amperage or watts required for each item that will need power. Be sure to account for any items that have a motor or compressor since these require 3-5 times the listed running watts to start up. You'll also want to multiply by 1.25 to allow for de-rated generator capacity.
Once you've totaled the starting and running watts, select a generator at least that size. Also consider whether you need 120V or 240V power or both. And make sure to choose a commercial or industrial grade generator not a lightweight home backup unit.
Getting the properly sized generator ensures you'll have reliable power to operate lights, tools, office trailers and more at your site. Have a major project coming up and need help determining your power requirements? Call Now for a consultation or generator sizing assistance from our experts.
