Jarvis Design did an amazing job working through the permit process with the City of Ottawa. They did the design and permits and attended the meetings and ensured the permit process went smoothly. I could not have done it myself, well maybe I could have, but not without a lot of stress, confusion and headaches. They know the process of dealing with municipalities and navigated very professionally and efficiently. They have my recommendation and definitely use them again if needed.

I have a renovation project that requires a building permit. Jarvis Design provided a technical drawing and project documentation which were stamped by a professional engineer. I am grateful for their assistance in moving the approval process forward.

Quinton took 9 months to get us our drawings and made many mistakes with them. He took our first payment and then went on vacation after promising he would try to get us the drawings in a month, he then took 9 months. He made many mistakes that have cost us so much time and money to correct that I do not recommend ever using him. When our builder reached out for clarifications he would not speak to the builder and did not then reach out to us to clarify. Just kept telling the builder to stop contacting him. We paid him thousands for shoddy drawings that we have had to correct multiple times and now we are moving into year 3 on this project and he wants another $900 to correct the initial error of putting our house venting incorrectly in the drawings so that we would have to rip down all of our ceilings to do our venting to match the drawings which makes no sense on an addition to a house. My husband pointed out many issues to him with the drawings and his response was always, I can do that for more money. We even had to engage a 2nd engineer to correct things just to keep the project moving because he was no help and hard to reach. Save yourself the headache and go elsewhere. Edit to clarify against owners response-we were not rude to staff, after contractors contacted them directly, we received emails and phone calls telling us that they would only report to us and would not answer anything but email but took weeks to respond to things that were happening in the moment. In regards to payment being delayed at the end by 2 months. They would not meet with us with our issues of the drawings. We tried to set up meetings, had several phone call communications and still were left with drawings that we didn't like but we're told could be fixed later. Payment was withheld because they kept sending drawings without the revisions we had spoken about prior to the end of our time working with them. They wouldn't release the drawings until we verified how big the footings were but no contractor would look at it without the stamped drawings. They withheld them because no contractor would look at them without a stamp and it made us feel like it was their first time too. Issues we had - They added an ensuite bathroom to a primary bedroom without a bathroom door access and put it at the front of the house when all of our bathroom plumbing access was at the back of the house. They also didn't remember meeting with us or what we had asked for at the walk through because of going on vacation and then put in a grand staircase to the upstairs in the drawings removing our front entry closet even though we had specifically asked for a basic staircase as we were going for functional and not fancy within the bedroom we removed to add the staircase. It was reiterated 4-6 times during the meeting but not drawn up as asked when we finally received the drawings in December. So 4 months from when we put the deposit down, it took them until January to respond to us when we were out of town and then it was still wrong after speaking in January when we offered for them to come see it in person.
