If you're considering your first 🔋electric vehicle, you're not alone. Many Ventura County homeowners are confused by all the new charging terms. The good news? Home charging⚡is actually pretty simple once you understand the basics.

A few common EV terms:
🔋 BEV = Battery Electric Vehicle (100% electric)
⛽🔋 PHEV = Plug in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (gas and electric)
🔌 Level 1 = Standard 120V outlet (adds about 3 to 5 miles of range per hour)
âš¡ Level 2 = 240V charger (adds roughly 20 to 45+ miles of range per hour)

Hardwired vs Plug In Charger
• Hardwired: Permanently connected, cleaner installation, required for full 48 amp charging.
• Plug In: Uses a NEMA 14 50 outlet and is a great option for flexibility. Most installations charge at 32 to 40 amps depending on the charger and outlet.

32 Amps vs 48 Amps
• 32 amps: Plenty for most drivers charging overnight.
• 48 amps: Faster charging for larger batteries or higher daily mileage. Requires a dedicated 60 amp circuit and a hardwired installation.

J1772 vs NACS
• J1772 has been the standard connector for most non Tesla EVs.
• NACS (North American Charging Standard) is the Tesla connector that many manufacturers, including Rivian, Ford, GM, Hyundai, Honda, Mercedes Benz, and others, are now adopting.

The best charger for your home depends on your vehicle, your electrical panel, your driving habits, and your future plans, not just what's cheapest.
