The Week in Review
Week of December 3, 2018
It was an ordinary work week, just like any other. We completed these two projects. The first is a new concrete pour addition with a broom finish. This was approximately 500 square feet. Notice all the control joints. Those are the saw cut lines in the finished concrete. These saw cuts are there for a reason. They alleviate or at least lessen the possibility of cracks. Concrete cracks are ugly looking, spider-like veins that appear in concrete from too much stress or normal stress but not enough control joints. Concrete cracks are normal and part of the curing process but having enough control joints can slow the cracking process.
The second project was your typical concrete paver repair. Paver repairs account for about 60% of my business. Which is a shame, since proper preparation and product ensures that some of these issues could be alleviated. This project was around a pool and pool deck area. It had sunken pavers all over the place. Sunken pavers are a tripping hazard. They need to be addressed as soon as possible. Sunken pavers around a pool area are usually caused by water seeping through the pavers and eroding the ground below. If these pavers were properly installed with the correct base and top sand, these pavers probably would not have sunk as bad as they did as quickly as they did.
We also had the opportunity to bid on an outdoor kitchen project. We’ll keep you updated.
