Audi Engine Failure Diagnosis: Bad GDI Injector Found
This Audi engine is toast.
Complete failure. Thousands in damage.
The culprit? One bad GDI injector that wasn't flowing correctly.
The frustrating part? The customer's previous shop tested the injectors and said they were "fine."
So what happened?
They tested at the wrong pressure.
Here's what most people (and most shops) don't understand about GDI (Gasoline Direct Injection) fuel injectors:
Your engine operates at up to 300 BAR of pressure (that's 4,350 PSI!)
Standard injector testing is done at 43 PSI
A GDI injector can pass at 43 PSI and fail catastrophically at 300 BAR
It's like testing a scuba tank at 5 PSI and saying it's good for a 100-foot dive.
Our testing protocol:
Test at working condition pressure
Electrical resistance verification
Flow capability at FOUR different pressure steps
Meets exact manufacturer specifications
Properly encapsulated safety equipment (at these pressures, it can take your hand off)
If your shop doesn't have high-pressure GDI test equipment, they cannot properly test your injectors. Period.
ALSO: Never let anyone spray carb cleaner down the top of GDI injectors. Please don't.
Don't learn this lesson the hard way like this Audi owner.
Send us your GDI injectors. We'll test them right.
