"Does my key need to be programmed?"
Most modern car keys are transponder keys, which means they need to be programmed to your vehicle in order to work. This has been the norm since the mid-90s when cars started coming with immobilised systems. If your vehicle was manufactured before the early 90s, you might have a simple metal key that doesn't require any programming.
