It was an honor to be interviewed by Joe Schoenmann at KNPR to share my thoughts and reactions to the fall of the Assad regime in Syria. As a native Syrian who now calls Las Vegas my home, this was a critical moment for me to reflect on and discuss. During the interview, we spoke about my personal experiences living under the Assad regime, and also, how the Syrian community in Las Vegas has been affected by the conflict. Many Syrians here have family and loved ones still living in Syria, and it is heartbreaking to see our country torn apart by war.
We also touched upon the ongoing refugee crisis caused by the conflict in Syria. It is estimated that over 6 million Syrians have been forced to flee their homes since the start of the civil war in 2011. Many countries, including USA, have opened their doors to Syrian refugees seeking safety and a better life.
As we discussed the potential fall of the Assad regime and what it could mean for Syria's future, I couldn't help but feel a mix of emotions. While it would bring an end to years of suffering under a brutal dictatorship, there is also fear and uncertainty about what comes next for my home country.
But one thing is certain - the resilience and strength of the Syrian people will prevail. We have endured years of conflict and hardship but continue to hope for a brighter future!
