Delivery of a comprehensive curriculum requires structure, guidance, fun, and engagement. We offer two alternative approaches for students to engage - Instructor-led and Self-Paced.
Instructor-led is considered superior because the teacher can guide, shape, and engage the student's mind in understanding the concepts. We are used to this in schools and other situations. It offers an opportunity for interaction between students, often with the same question, and partnership in projects and exercises (important for social skill-building, and forming friendships).
Self-paced is useful in short bursts to understand a concept but fails when there is no human assessment/guidance over longer timeframes. It has value in a looser structure (like playing games) but falls short in ensuring understanding of complex topics that build up. Even self-paced classes need some teacher interaction (otherwise we would all have been educated via the knowledge on the web)!
