A skylight transforms the kitchen in a way few other design decisions can. At CKS Projects, we design and build custom homes across Wollongong, the Illawarra, and the Shoalhaven where natural light is treated as a foundational element, not a finishing touch.
Positioned with intent, a skylight draws daylight directly into the heart of the home, illuminating the spaces where households spend the most time. In a kitchen, this has a profound effect. Worksurfaces feel clearer, the room reads as larger, and the overall atmosphere shifts from functional to genuinely uplifting. Throughout the day, the quality of light changes naturally, creating a living, breathing environment that artificial lighting simply cannot replicate.
Beyond aesthetics, skylights contribute meaningfully to a home's passive design performance. By reducing reliance on artificial lighting during daylight hours, they lower energy consumption, improve thermal comfort when specified correctly, and support a more sustainable approach to custom home design, an increasingly important consideration for homeowners across the Illawarra region.
