Featured in the Illawarra Mercury: our award-winning Wombarra clifftop home.
We're proud that our Wombarra project has been featured by the Illawarra Mercury, following its recent win at the Master Builders NSW Southern Region Awards in the Contract Homes category. Builder and CKS Projects founder Keiron Moore spoke to the publication about what made this clifftop build one of the most technically demanding projects our team has delivered.
The site presented serious challenges from the outset: an escarpment zone classification, subterranean water beneath the block, and a main road along the boundary. As a knockdown rebuild, the engineering and stormwater management had to be resolved before the design could even take shape.
The result is a split-level home set into the natural fall of the land, with high-level northern windows and a central light atrium designed to capture winter sun while shading the interior in summer. A rooftop solar system powers the home and two electric vehicles, with surplus energy used to heat the lower floor slab. Materially, the home shifts in character from level to level: polished concrete, recycled brick, and timber stairs downstairs, opening into warmer timber floors, timber ceilings, and clerestory glazing upstairs.
As a custom home builder across Wollongong, the Illawarra, and the Shoalhaven, projects like Wombarra reflect what's possible when engineering, architectural design, and material selection are resolved together from day one.
