We loved our stay at Hotel Volcan Verde. This hotel used to be known as Arenal History Inn up through about three months ago. It's near downtown La Fortuna, and tons of restaurants and shops are within an easy walk. With that being said, the hotel cabins are just off of the street enough that you feel like you are in a different world. (FYI, many hotels in this region, some of which are very pricey and opulent, are nowhere close to the downtown of La Fortuna.) There is also tons of parking spots near the cabins. Each cabin was beautifully appointed, with mini split air conditioning, excellent beds (Queens) and bathrooms, and a refrigerator with complimentary bottles of waters and juice boxes. EXCELLENT WiFi. Randy (the hotel manager) was great! WhatsApp communications with him were always fast and productive. He was able to set up many things for us in advance of our stay. Breakfast was complimentary (served between 7-9am), with excellent options ranging from local cuisine, to cereal/pancake options for picky eaters. Under special circumstances, you can order breakfast the day before and be served at 6:30am. The pool was under repair during our stay, so in exchange for the inconvenience, we received vouchers to the hotel's excellent (and extremely popular!) restaurant. He also helped set up discounted rates for a day pass at Baldi Hot Springs (just up the road from us, about a six minute car ride). All told, this was a great place to stay in La Fortuna!

Overall, ok to stay a few days to explore La Fortuna. Rooms are outdated and desperately need a bit of a refresher. Bed is very comfy. As in a lot of hotels in Costa Rica, the rain sounds 100x worse when inside the hotel. It gets super loud and wakes you up. We got a voucher for a cocktail because the pool was being painted and couldn’t be used. It was pouring rain, we wouldn’t have used it anyway, so it was a very kind gesture. Really don’t recommend having breakfast in the restaurant. Coffee was the worst we had in Costa Rica.

The room itself was okay, very spacious and comfortable, and the front desk attendant was friendly and helpful. However, we had too many issues here to rate it well. Outside the cabin smelled like sewage which would find its way into the cabin, we lost hot water at one point (which the front desk attendant did quickly address) and we came back to our room one day to find the door wife open even though we definitely closed and locked it and had the do not disturb sign up. The breakfast was also quite bad and we only tried that one day before going elsewhere.

Love the individual bungalows! Super comfy and nice decor. Bed was not the softest, but great value for the low price. The location is great for either quickly getting into La Fortuna or up into the hills for hot springs and excursions. I'll stay there again if I go back to La Fortuna!

We enjoyed our stay. Staff were very nice and accommodating. Very large comfortable king bed. Nice greenery around but the sidewalk could use some work. Cannot pull wheeled luggage or you’ll break your wheels (must carry the whole way). Shampoo and conditioner bottles were both shampoo. There’s a dog somewhere nearby that barks all day (a little annoying if you’re in your room relaxing). The restaurant is convenient with good food for breakfast. Saw a lot of birds on the grounds. Restaurants, shops, minimart, grocery store all within 1-10 minute walking distance.

This hotel is one of the best I’ve stayed in, the rooms are extremely clean and the atmosphere is very nice, the workers there are very friendly and there is also a restaurant that serves breakfast lunch and dinner. 100% recommend for your stay in La fortuna

It consists of private cabins on the property that are newly renovated! We felt as though we had a lot of privacy and the staff were always there to answer any questions. The location was great as we could easily walk to nearby restaurants and souvenir shops; it was only a brief drive to downtown La Fortuna. This hotel also had a cute pool area and was connected to a restaurant up front which provided delicious drinks and a variety of tasty entrees. Our morning breakfast, included in our stay, was amazing. We had options to choose from and the food was always fresh. Very pleasant staff on the premises. The landscaping is beautiful; once in the back of the property, you feel as though you are in the jungle. Price is reasonable compared to other hotels in the area and definitely worth it.

I think this could be the best place I have ever stayed. The staff are so lovely and helpful, it's so clean, they clean the rooms everyday, the breakfast is so nice too. Laura who works in the restaurant is absolutely amazing, she was so friendly, giving us tips on things to do in the area etc, everytime she greeted us she had 10/10 customer service, she was really great! This place is like a dream, I've never stayed anywhere like it before, all of the wild life that was around was truly amazing. There was a sloth living in the tree with a little baby, seen all sorts of birds and some other animals, the pool was cleaned everyday too. They also gave us a free welcome drink, 10/10 experience for me!
