I had an incredible experience training with Horizon Flight School. The whole experience I felt safe and was excited to learn. The instructor, Claudio, are not only a highly skilled pilots but also an excellent teacher who break down each step of the training in a way that’s easy to understand, no matter your background. The emphasis on safety was clear from the start, which gave me full confidence as I progressed from ground handling to my very first solo flight. The equipment purchased through the school was very high quality and the training site (Drayton Valley Airport) offered the perfect environment for learning. In spring/summer 2024 I completed the paramotor training with Claudio at Horizon Flight School. I had an excellent experience. Claudio is a very experienced pilot and an excellent instructor. The facilities at the Drayton Valley airport are great. The school has a remote-controlled electric towing winch to very efficiently allow students to practice their launches and landings, first with a standard paragliding harness then using the paramotor to get used to the added weight and speed before transitioning to powered flights using the paramotor. Claudio is a dealer for several reputable brands of equipment and he set me up with everything I needed to get in the air. The process to become fully licensed to fly a powered paraglider in Canads is very complex and Claudio did an excellent job of helping me get through all the hoops with his in-depth knowledge of the process (medical certificate, student pilot permit, paramotor registration, ultralight exam, radio licence, insurance etc!). I travelled from BC to complete this training and it was totally worth it. I would highly recommend Horizon Flight School. I am now able to confidently explore my local skies and I'm loving it!

Over the last couple of days, I had the opportunity to work with Horizon Flight School for my Ultralight ratings, and it was an excellent experience. I trained with Claudio, who was both friendly and highly professional. He came well-prepared for every lesson, with a clear structure and logical sequence to the training. What stood out to me was how Claudio encouraged active participation and offered clear, logical explanations to my questions. If he didn’t have an immediate answer, he was upfront about it and followed up promptly—something I truly appreciated. Being an ultralight flight school, I was especially impressed with the emphasis on safety, use of checklists, and adherence to Standard Operating Procedures. Everything was well-aligned with Transport Canada’s requirements, which gave me great confidence in the training process. Overall, it was a fantastic learning experience, and I would highly recommend Horizon Flight School to anyone looking to earn their ratings.

I had the great pleasure of taking an introductory paragliding course with Claudio. Claudio is friendly, knowledgeable, and safety-focused. The ground-handling practice made the basics easy to grasp. The towed launch flights were the perfect way to feel real airtime without pressure as they were smooth, controlled, and incredibly exciting. I went on a paramotor test flight for the first time here, and it was great! Claudio ensured that I was comfortable and explained to me the process of launching, flying and landing. He let me try steering a bit and we had around 20-30 minutes of air time. He lent me a 360 camera to film the entire flight, of which I could download later too!
