WHAT IS AN ICE DAM?
An ice dam is a ridge of ice that forms at the edge of a roof & prevents melting snow (water) from draining off the roof. This water can back up on the roof line beneath the shingles and penetrate inadequately equipped roofs, causing damage to walls, ceilings, insulation and other areas.
EFFECTS OF ICE DAMS:
>Visible signs - water will damage plywood, framing and sheetrock and that moisture can lead to growth of mold and mildew.
>Non visible - The growth of mold and mildew can lead to respiratory problems, particularly in those predisposed to respiratory issues (asthmatic).
