This post is for the general population so if you are a fit, active, older individual who weight trains, just double tap and keep scrolling 👍🏻

For the rest, listen up. As we age, if we don’t weight train, we lose muscle mass. It’s no secret but it’s a specific type of muscle mass we lose as to why we slow, down, lose balance and break easily if we fall.
-
Type 2 fast twitch muscle fibres. These are the explosive fibres, reactive fibres if you like. The ones that make us move quickly in the event of a trip, fall or if we need to sprint somewhere. This is the fibre we lose the most as we age.
-
We become slower, lose balance easier and cannot react quickly enough to prevent us falling. This becomes an issue when trying to stop ourselves from really hitting the ground.
-
As we lose tissue through little to no use, we lose bone mineral density. This makes bones weak and a bit brittle. So combine no reactive, fast moving muscles with brittle, weak bones and we crumble when he hit the ground.
-
Good news though!! You can reverse this at any age! That’s right, even a 80 year old man or woman can start weight training, make serious improvements to their muscle mass and health and live out the rest of their lives feeling much younger than they currently do.
-
Wouldn’t that be nice?
