How to Preserve Your Cedar Fence
Cedar fences are the most desirable fences for privacy and outdoor designs. They tend to add more value to your property, more than many other fence options. The question is “how can you as a home owner prevent your fence from becoming a grey weathered eyesore?”
So why does your fence turn grey and what can you do to preserve it?
When Oregon’s rainy season hits, the rain absorbs into the outer layers of your wood. When this is happens, the water washes away the outer layer of cells in your cedar board. These cells produce oils that give cedar its color and smell and is the reason your fence looks so good after its been installed.
A fence that lives beneath full shade in dry conditions is going to last longer than a fence that lives in full sun, or a fence which is exposed to several months of heavy rain or snow. That is why staining your fence is important. It keeps out the water, and seals in the cells.
