This hospital and staff have been great to my bearded dragon and us! My dragon was very sick a few months back, with their help he is doing so much better. They squeezed him in quickly even though they were booked up once they heard about his symptoms. They were able to do a drop off to accommodate my work schedule. There is clear communication from both doctors / techs. They made a treatment plan and went over diagnostics/treatments with cost. Everything was very direct and I was well informed by the staff. They educated me on aspects that as an owner we could do better or change without belittling us and answered every question we had and gave us demonstrations on how to medicate our pet. They made it simple to know what to expect that first visit and long term. They are great at responding in a timely manner to questions and concerns that arise even after the appointment. I work at another vet hospital that does not see exotics so it is not something I take lightly to give my pet to strangers and not be present or in control, but they made it easy. They took great care of him, thanks to them he is on the road to recovery 🥰

Highly recommend Happy Tails ER/vet team! My husband and I can’t even begin to thank Happy Tails team enough for EVERYTHING they have done for our baby boy, Rusty! I rushed him in on Friday morning due to signs of obstruction when urinating & the whole team acted fast with his care, comfort to me and ensured they were super thorough for their record on his information while staying calm themselves! They had him all day and called almost every hour with a full medical update, to say how he was still doing well or even a sweet photo of him. When we picked him up they were so friendly and kind and again thorough with his needs going home and what they provided for him on his time there. For being such a horrible medical issue and Rusty and I being scared, they truly made it better and made my husband and I know he was in the best hands for his care! Thank you team! Thank you! He is already acting more like himself🤍

The staff was so gentle and caring with my sick dog. They communicated really well. When she was hospitalized they sent a photo and update every few hours. They set her up very comfortably to watch videos while getting her iv floods and drugs.

This is my 6-month-old puppy, Willow. She means the world to me. She was my senior year gift after all my friends moved away. I made her a part of all of my senior experiences. I even got her a matching prom dress for pictures :). She even comes to work with me at my grooming salon and everyone who comes in loves her too. Unfortunately, two weeks ago her spay incision ruptured open causing some of her intestines to come outside of her body. This was an extremely rare emergency that I couldn’t have prevented and was just a risk of a spay. (Her spay was not done here) I rushed her to Happy Tails Emergency Vet, and they took care of my girl right away. She received IV fluids, a catheter to watch for infection, they monitored temperature, and gave her lots of love and some cheese whiz. They went above and beyond by researching which 24-hour overnight facility would be the most cost-effective, sending me photos and updates of her after her surgery, and even bringing me water and a towel to clean Willow's vomit off my clothes. During her laser therapy sessions, they gave Willow lots of love and continued to ask me how I was doing. Each time we go to Happy Tails Willow’s tail starts to wag and she gets very excited. Her incision healed fast with no complications. When she was okay to return to normal activity we did a celebratory spa and groom with some pet-safe purple dye, as well as a toy shopping spree. I’m very grateful for Happy Tails Emergency Pet Service because my girl and I are going to be more than okay!

Happy Tails is the place to go if you need a great reptile vet. Dr. Calpeno had cared for a couple of my lil guys and she is incredible. We had had a very bad experience at another nearby vet and my gecko Sol was doing so badly after being seen there for months. With the vet and the teams help he made a full recovery and I have never been more impressed by a vet who takes exotics. You will be encouraged to make changes that will only benefit your pets WITHOUT feeling judged or lectured or any negativity. The team is wonderful and I enjoy my visits and know my little loved ones are in the best hands possible! If I could rate more than 5 stars I would.

Wonderful practice. I never have to wait. They put us right in a waiting room. Dr. Vera is always very thorough in explaining her findings. She did excellent surgery on our lab. The whole staff is very caring and helpful. I will continue to use this practice and will be transferring our other pets to here.

I've been with Dr. V nearly since she opened. I like having a privately owned Veterinary clinic where the owner is "the Vet". She always been friendly and honest, and will discuss all aspects of our fur kids care. on one occasion through the years, with Schatzi, she consulted on the emergency care and diagnosis with the other clinic, and when the time came to make the hard and best call for our boy, she was kind, compassionate, and honest enough to tell us that we couldn't do anything more for him. She's always been that way with us, with all 7 of our Schnauzers through the years. A Vet that honestly cares more for the patient than her pocketbook is rare. The other vets who have joined her clinic since we started with her are in the same category as I hold her. Truly loving and caring of their patients. I know how difficult it is to keep a private clinic open these days against the "Big Box" care facilities is a daunting challenge, which sadly drives up costs to remain in business when you can't get that "big volume" discount for test kits, meds, etc. Happy Tails is, as far as I know, the last privately owned Vet in the Pasadena area, and while treatment and care may seem expensive (in lieu of the above), the care and treatment of your family members is top notch and personal. I have several items I could share about Dr. Vera where she went way beyond what you would expect. She knows I look for the best price on meds, or supplies. When I had a diabetic dog who needed insulin, she taught me how to the curve studies so I could avoid a visit and cost expense, I just sent her the results and she told me when to change to dose or frequency. When I was getting insulin from a Vet Supplier, she wanted to be sure of my source, so she offered to price match saving me additional cost. When my diabetic crossed over, I had a bunch of insulin which I didn't want to toss out. I mentioned it to her, and she told me she had another patient who could benefit and was on a tight budget. That excess supply, insulin and syringes, went to a family in need. I myself benefitted like that for another medication that one of my other pups needed. If you have a situation of the unbearable loss of a pet, don't toss that medication, talk to Happy Tails, and see if someone else can be helped. In closing, Happy Tails, is one of the few remaining privately owned Veterinary Clinics where they know your pet, you join a family, the care is top notch, and YOU will never be rushed in and out on an assembly line, so don't plan on merely going in and going out; you're going to get a conversation and good exam.

I will start by saying that everyone at this location is a delight and very professional and helpful, everyone except the vet I saw. Due to the service I was provided with by the vet, Dr. Vera Calpeno, I decided to take my business elsewhere. She spoke with a very rude and condescending tone and belittled me for not taking the absolute best care of my turtle. I thought maybe the first time she was just having a bad day or something so decided to give her another shot but after the second visit, which included overhearing how she spoke to her staff which was in the same manner, I decided they did not deserve my business. I would strongly advise anyone from bringing their exotic animals here. To top it all off, I brought my turtle to a new exotic vet and they informed me that the previous month’s worth of antibiotics I had been administering to my turtle were essentially useless due to me being improperly shown how to administer the antibiotic at home. Truly a waste of time and money. There are many better vets in the surrounding area.

My dog Doom was brought into Happy Tails for vomiting and lethargy. He was quickly taken back and assessed by Dr. Calpeno. X-rays showed he had an intestinal blockage. From the moment I came in it was all hands on deck to get Doom in better shape. He was then taken into surgery (they have a full surgical suite on site) and the team spent four hours removing the obstruction. Everything happened very quickly but they made me feel comfortable and informed throughout the entire process. I knew he was in good hands. Once he was done with surgery Sam (practice manager) sat with me for several hours trying to find affordable 24hr care. The whole team was pitching in to help get him sent to an affordable but great care facility. I cannot thank them enough for the above and beyond efforts they made for my pup and I. I’ve never felt so cared for. Doom is a very lucky man to have had them, as am I. If you want the best care, I definitely recommend Happy Tails.

Wonderful experience, a little bit pricey so be prepared. Other than that, no complaints, my parrot was able to recover wonderfully! Definitely taking mango back for his routine checkups!
