New Research suggests Lowering 'Bad' Cholesterol Could Reduce Dementia Risk by 26%!
A recent study published in the Journal of Neurology, Neurosurgery & Psychiatry reveals that reducing low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol levels may lower the risk of developing dementia by 26% and Alzheimer's disease by 28%.
Key findings include:
• Individuals with LDL cholesterol levels below 1.8 mmol/L had a significantly lower risk of dementia compared to those with higher levels.
• Statin use provided additional protection, reducing dementia risk by 13% among individuals with low LDL cholesterol levels.
While the study suggests a strong association between lower LDL cholesterol and reduced dementia risk, more research is needed to fully understand the impact of statins on brain health.
