Yesterday, we performed a chimney and fireplace flue inspection on a property near Greenwood Drive in Minnetonka, MN 55343.
Unfortunately, several issues were found that rendered the chimney unsafe for use, along with concerns about its structural integrity. The bricks, an old Chicago blend, were heavily deteriorated. The top crown (also referred to as the wash or cap) was cracked and separating from the brickwork. It also lacked an expansion joint and did not have the required 2-inch overhang on all sides.
An estimate for the necessary repairs was provided.
