Grand Cholan Loughton

Gand cholan 9 of us went to Grand Cholan this afternoon for a birthday celebration. Amazing food (especially the prawns and the dosa!) But between the 9 of us we tried lots of different dishes and will 100% be going back there. Please give this local restaurant a try - it deserves it! Fabulous staff and fabulous service! Such a lovely afternoon. Thank you Grand Cholan. We really appreciated you!

Grand Cholan is a welcome addition to Loughton High Street, bringing South Indian flavors to the area. The restaurant has a warm and inviting atmosphere, and service is generally good, though it could be more focused, organized, and attentive, especially during busy weekends. The food is delicious, showcasing authentic flavors, but there is still room for refinement. Some of the alcoholic drinks were unavailable during the visit, which was a slight disappointment, though hopefully, this will be resolved soon. The coffee was too milky and could be improved for a better finish to the meal. Overall, it was a good dining experience that met expectations, and I would definitely visit again. With a few improvements in service and consistency, Grand Cholan has great potential to become a standout spot in Loughton.

What an amazing experience at Grand Cholan! Cannot wait to go there again. The service was super incredible, did not have to wait to order, since we got the starters they waited and asked when we wanted the mains, the food was incredible, super fresh and delicious and everything was clean and fresh. The menu had lots of choices as well. Definitely recommend

This was my second visit, the first visit was such a lovely experience, my friend and I decided that for our Birthdays, we’d go again. We had the pleasure of being served by Vyshnavi who is just the most wonderful woman! So welcoming, polite, and attentive. We weren’t expecting to have our Birthdays acknowledged, so it was such a lovely surprise to be treated to a delicious cake!! The food is always on point, and the service is just amazing!! I think this will become a new regular now! Thank you to Vyshnavi and the manager who treated us with such kindness and hospitality. Wishing you every success with your lovely restaurant!

We have just returned from a family celebration - 39th wedding anniversary. The atmosphere was warm and relaxing, the staff friendly and helpful. We love South Indian food, and can highly recommend anyone coming here for a meal. Thoroughly enjoyed our evening and will definitely eat here again and enjoy deliveries going forward. The dishes were tasty and plentiful. Don’t hesitate in booking a table. Thank you for a lovely evening

Dined here twice now, food is tasty and fresh. Service is efficient and friendly. Prices are reasonable. Had a takeaway. They gave us complimentary onion bhagi. Portions were so large had enough for dinner the following night. Nicest Indian in Loughton. Highly recommended.

Fourth Visit, Still Grand! The Grand Cholan in Loughton is a Must-Try. My husband and I returned to The Grand Cholan in Loughton last night for our fourth visit, and it was just as excellent as we remembered. Despite it being a Tuesday, the 6:30 pm seating was already quite full—a testament to its popularity! We were warmly welcomed and shown to our comfortable seating immediately. The atmosphere here is truly lovely: the dining room is tastefully decorated with beautiful art and stunning ceiling lights. The background music is perfectly chosen—calming and at just the right volume so you can actually enjoy a conversation. We started with two glasses of wine, sparkling water, and our usual favourite, the CHOLLE SAMOSA CHAT, which was delicious as ever. We also tried the Paneer Tikka for the first time, and it was equally delicious and beautifully presented. Since they were busy, and we had a slight wait for our starters, the staff generously offered a complimentary basket of poppadoms and dips, which was a thoughtful touch. For our shared mains, we enjoyed our long-time favourite, the Lamb Chettinad Chat—the meat was wonderfully tender, and the sauce was absolutely moorish. We also had the Tandoori Chicken main, which came with a generous portion of rice, dal, and salad. Everything was exceptionally tasty with good portion sizes. The service was, as usual, excellent. My only small note is that the staff should be mindful to wipe down the table before the main courses arrive (we had a small mess from the starter on one side). We didn't point it out, but it's a minor detail in an otherwise flawless experience. We highly recommend this restaurant! We were also delighted to use a recent £25 marketing voucher that came through our door—a great piece of marketing that guarantees we'll be back soon!

We just had the privilege of dining here. What an experience! From the greetings at the entrance to the food and service, everything 10/10! At the end of the meal we were completely satisfied but mentioned it was our daughter’s birthday. They surprised us with a lovely and decadent chocolate cake, candle and all! Serenading her and even found a beautiful song that I liked to play for her. They made it extremely special! Thank you!

This is our family favourite. It’s just unbeatable - the service, quality of food, and the ambience. The restaurant only has 2 London locations and this is just a special one. The service is something just off the charts. The friendly small team always greeting you right from the moment you step in, with a big smile and enthusiasm which is rare these days. During the meal, they don’t push on you to order more or to leave once finished - you can truly take in the atmosphere and your meal! As for the food, it’s immaculate. With curry portions enough for 2, and rice for 3, it’s also authentic and very tasty. The menu’s selection is also just fab! Thank you so much!

It's a miracle I was able to walk out the restaurant considering the amount of delicious food I'd consumed. My family and I came to celebrate and the staff were really friendly and lovely our entire meal. We were very well taken care of and the portions were just the right size. I wish I had a better photo to show you just how good the food was but you'll just have to takew my word for it. I'll reccomend the chocolate ferrero roche milkshake and the chocolate doca! :) This is actually our second time at this restaurant and it won't be our last!
