Avoid this dealership at all costs- Putting lives at risk with luxurious lemons and showing no liability:
I purchased a brand new car from Gold Coast Land Rover, trusting I was getting a reliable vehicle with a manufacturer's warranty. After THREE weeks (1000km) it lost acceleration and then completely shut down on a busy, major road with my young children in the car. We waited outside the car, as it was at risk of being sideswiped by a bus, for hours for a tow truck. The muck about to have the car returned to the dealership was a nightmare and only South Brisbane Land Rover would take it in for repairs. We were eventually told it was ‘an earthing problem in one of the electrical circuits’ and it was now fixed.
However the car came to a complete stop again two weeks after its return, on a busy road at night with three kids in the car, narrowly avoiding being rear ended by another car. Moments before, the air conditioner expelled large amounts of hot air, fogging all windows and preventing all visibility.
Gold Coast Land Rover’s handling of the entire situation and treatment of us has been down right degrading and completely unprofessional. They abruptly dismiss our concerns, telling us to get our solicitor onto them. They gaslight us, contradict one another, and spin lies that suit, claiming that they have uncovered the ‘issue’ only for another staff member to admit they can’t replicate the ‘error message’ and are therefore unable to find or fix any issue. Their latest absurd claim is that it was possibly an issue with the front sensor which can happen whenever the car is exposed to dirt, rain or snow. So I now have to avoid all particles of dirt or water when operating the car (n.b. both times I was driving the car prior to the breakdowns, it was neither raining, snowing nor in dirty/dusty conditions). Even if this was the actual cause of the car’s fault, what reasonable consumer would have purchased the car knowing it would completely shut down when there is rain or dirt present??!
When my husband asked whether they are satisfied trying to return the car to us despite no real repairs being carried out- other than wiping down the front of the car and just clearing the error code- and therefore it posing a significant risk of injury or death to his family, they just palmed him off.
This faulty vehicle is unlikely to meet the consumer guarantee of acceptable quality as it becomes completely immobile while in use, and no reasonable consumer would have purchased this car knowing it would develop such serious defects SO shortly after purchase. The car does not serve its purpose for which it was intended, it poses a major safety risk by coming to a complete stop whilst operating and its fault has been unable to be fixed in a reasonable timeframe- the car has spent more time on the back of a tow truck/in a service centre than it ever has on a road or in my possession.
The dealership refuses a refund or replacement despite these major failures, so we are now forced to accept a faulty vehicle or pursue the case through QCAT. This dealership has caused ongoing emotional, psychological and financial harm and stress for my entire family and the lemon car we are left with is unsafe and unusable. Due to the lack of integrity and credibility of this dealership, my dream car has turned into a complete nightmare. I have never encountered a company that actually manages to surpass their already horrendous reputation- but Gold Coast Land Rover manages to destroy and further obliterate the abysmal reputation Range Rover/ Land Rover vehicles already carry within the Australian, and world wide, car market.
