In 1984, The Municipal Art Society of New York competition for ideas to revitalize Times Square received more than 550 submissions. In a review of the 2014 Skyscraper Museum exhibition,“Times Square, 1984: The Postmodern Moment,” architecture critic Joseph Giovannini wrote, "George Ranalli proposed a tower featuring archetypical forms, including a sphere nested in the body of the building." The sphere and stepped pyramidal shapes are theaters. The design is now re-presented as digital rendering.
