In 1979, George Ranalli Architect's commissioned master plan for the Fashion Institute of Technology in Manhattan to address the needs of a growing campus proposed converting 27th St. between 7th and 8th Avenues to pedestrian access to create a courtyard around which the school could situate an enlarged student center, instructional space, and 1,000-units of residential housing, much like the FIT campus today!
