DISCLAIMER: I recently discovered this company had turnover in some of their personnel, so keep in mind that my review comes before those changes.
.......
I have read some negative reviews, and some of them mention bad experiences for jobs $3K or less. I cannot speak to those reviews, because my job was a moderately sized residential job with a LOT of rocks and tremendous demo (teardown)...much larger than $3K. In my front yard and area next to my driveway, I needed a pain-in-the-butt, good-sized tree completely removed, along with several bushes and a very small tree; rock removal and soil leveling, as well. Didn't ask for any payments until the job was completed. Overall, I was very pleased with their work and would certainly recommend them. I went with them on a recommendation from a reliable friend.
First off, their customer liaison (Itzel) was professional, kind, and knowledgable; very personable. I did have a couple blips when it came to communication, but she gave me her reasons why responses were delayed and I respect them. On the whole, though, she was great - took yard measurements, answered my questions patiently, and drew several (accurate) design sketches and reworked estimates based on my preferences.
Often times I would see one of the company's owners here, and she was thorough and personable, as well.
Labor-wise, the foreman (Alex) was a machine and exhibited high attention to detail, which I appreciated because I have OCD tendencies. Patient with ALL my concerns and questions; very kind! You can tell he takes pride in all his work. His workers were nice and patient, as well, and worked diligently. Daily, the number of workers (including Alex) ranged from 3 to 5.
My project began March 19 and ended March 27. They were here every day except Sunday and arrived around 7:15 a.m. each day. Even when their main work vehicle got into an accident (I saw photos), they used their personal truck to pull their trailer. ... Now, do I feel the job was a tad overpriced? A bit. Could I have saved money by measuring myself and buying my own materials? Perhaps. But my time was needed elsewhere. And I recognize that tearing down my yard was a large undertaking and that the huge amount or rocks was expensive. Almost as important, I wanted a company that would be professional, TIMELY AND PUNCTUAL, and provide high-quality work. I am a HUGE piece-of-mind person, and I am willing to pay up for quality service, especially in a city saturated with underwhelming and under-skilled contractors. ... I feel G&R was worth my money.
