Old Septic Systems do not have to always be replaced !
We recently worked on an older septic system with two concrete tanks that had been slowly deteriorating over time. The original lids were no longer watertight, which allowed groundwater to enter the system and reduce its overall service life.
Rather than replacing the entire system, we addressed the specific issues by installing risers to grade, sealing minor cracks around the covers, applying waterproofing, and coordinating leak testing with the Health Department. After passing inspection, the system was stabilized and protected moving forward.
This was a good reminder that not all older septic systems need to be replaced. In many cases, targeted repairs and upgrades can make a meaningful difference when the issues are identified early and handled correctly.
