It was an exhilarating day today at Dionisio Metal & Iron scrap yard. One of the many awesome yard employees there gave us a huge, helpful, electromagnetic hand with unloading our steel from the trailer.
It was so fun to watch the giant magnet when the operator switched it on. Each time you could hear the hum of the electricity magnetizing the huge magnet as it easily hoisted pieces of steel into the air that I remembered were so heavy when we loaded them!
This machine sucked them up like it was nothing and then swung the steel over to a large pile of assorted steel. Then, when the operator switched the magnet off again, the back breaking steel that was clinging to the bottom of it fell right where he wanted it to fall. And the best part is my back didn’t complain one bit! :)
I’d never seen one of those magnets up close before, so at first I wondered if it might try to pick up the whole trailer along with the steel, or maybe the truck? Haha! But these guys at Dionisio Metal & Iron are experts. They know what exactly they are doing.
Alas, I couldn’t approach the operator to tip him because he was inside an enclosed cab driving the machine, And also for safety reasons. But I always tip the hard workers at the scrap yard, so if that ever happens, all you have to do is give the tip to the office when you go inside to be paid, and just tell them who it’s for.
A happy scrap metal yard employee = a happy scrap metal seller + a quicker/easier time with the entire process!
