Excellent early evening tour through Funchal with our guide Lisa. Great way to get to know the place a little better with some wonderful childhood memories and family recollections from Lisa’s lived experience of the island. Highly recommended.

As a private group of 8 we enjoyed a really interesting tour of old town Funchal. Lisa started by giving a summary of the history of the island and followed it up with useful facts as we walked around the city. She is very eloquent, her English is impeccable (which we really appreciated) and she has a good sense of humour. She gave titbits of advice about where to go to eat, where to drink poncha and highly recommended the Monte Tropical garden which we subsequently enjoyed. She also helped organise a levada walking tour for us. A very informative and enjoyable tour. Highly recommended.

A must do tour of essential history, fun facts and recommendations done by professional local guide Lisa always amazing. She kept us interested, entertained, small talked with those interested, made us walk up the hill in a doable amount and shared her passion for her city. Recommended to everyone who is not afraid to walk and explore. Thank you Lisa 😊 🙏 💓

The tour was tremendously worthwhile and enjoyable, thanks to Lisa's extensive knowledge of Madeira and Funchal's history. Each location was narrated with detail, covering its past, the people, and its function. If you are new in Funchal, tips and insights are provided into the local culture. Lisa constantly engaged with the audience and provides opportunities to ask questions. I was amazed by her depth of knowledge and the two-and-a-half hours flew by. My only wish was that this fantastic experience had lasted longer.

Lisa gave us a wonderful and informative tour. We learned many important and amazing historical facts that made Funchal a much more interesting and memorable place for us. We saw cozy secret streets, cafes and places that we would not have found on our own. It is just a great idea to organize this tour for out-of-town guests. Thank you, Lisa! I highly recommend this tour to everyone!

Madeira is a popular island preceded by over six hundred years of Portuguese history. For tourists visiting with a limited time, the best way to discover that rich history can be with a free walking tour. Many destination cities offer something similar, so when I found Funchal Free Walking Tours, I booked online and the website was easy to navigate. On the day of my walking tour, it was easy to find the meeting spot. During the experience, it was very informative and easy to follow. In a matter of 2-3 hours, I heard about the fascinating stories behind monuments, statues and buildings with Madeiran heritage. Although it is free, the tour guide relies on the gratitude of their attendees and tips are encouraged, whatever you feel is merited. I thought they did really well and contributed a good amount for their effort. I highly recommend them as an economical option to explore the city.

Booked the essential tour , a smooth booking process and confirmation email. Arrived to see Lisa with her yellow umbrella and the tour started on time. A well paced walk with plenty of information provided at many stops, with time at some to explore. Very knowledgeable guide who also provided details of places to eat and drink. I would recommend Free Walking Tours and when we return will so The Old Town tour.

My friends and I just finished our tour with Romeo; he was incredible! He welcomed us kindly and took his time to share his knowledge about everywhere he took us. He consistently ensured the whole group was comfortable and answered all of our questions. It is clear how passionate he is about the heritage of Madeira and he radiates positive energy in his tour as he showed us around. We had a lovely time and would recommend this tour to anyone who is visiting. Grateful for this experience all thanks to Romeo!

We have used several versions of " free walking tours" in New York, Malta and in the UK. We always find that 2-3 hours spent in the company of a local guide will give you much more information on a place than trying to read a guide book whilst wandering around. Happy to say this was the case a few days ago when we took a group tour in the company of Lisa. Certainly worth considering.

This is such a lovely and informative walking tour. It is clear Lisa knows her island and it's history thoroughly. She showed some spots I'd never be able to find myself and recommended locally owned businesses to buy fruits and chocolates. Overall it was great and would do it again.
