Very pleased with the service I received at First Gear I just moved to Brandon and had three other repair shops look at my car and give me either overpriced estimates or provide shoddy work before I found First Gear Transmission. From the first phone call Mark was helpful and efficient. I thought I had a problem with my transmission but they tested it and told me it was fine. Replaced 2 filters and fixed my brake light. The service was super quick and very reasonably priced. I feel good that I have found a mechanic that I can trust to be skilled and honest, very hard to find these days

Big shoutout to First Gear Transmission & Auto Repair! They did an amazing job on my vehicle professional, honest, and fast. From the moment I walked in, the staff treated me with respect and kept me updated every step of the way. My car runs smoother than ever, and I couldn’t be happier with the results. If you’re looking for a shop that truly cares about their customers and takes pride in their work, I highly recommend First Gear. Reliable service, fair prices, and top quality work what more could you ask for. Thank you again to the whole team for getting me back on the road with confidence.

First Gear has given nothing but superior service to me and my 2015 Jeep Wrangler. Everything from replacing brake pads to a new engine when mine blew. They’re fast and honest with all their work. From showing you what’s wrong to giving the best prices possible. I have been dealing with them for about three years now and drive all the way from Davenport just for their service. I have referred several people to this shop and have never heard a complaint from any of them, only compliments.

Pete and Dawn were great at First Gear. They took on a big job with my '99 4Runner. The car runs great and they had it done in a timely fashion with the estimate. Pricing was more than fair for the quality of work they did. I would highly recommend First Gear for any car troubles that come your way.

Take nothing to first gear 20,000 miles my transmission goes out and they won’t cover it. I would highly recommend take nothing nothing to them!!!!!! You’re right it’s in Canada because I moved to Alaska, so no realistic way to bring it back! and yes they said it over heated. I’ve had the truck for five years I’ve got now 240 plus on the truck and the original transmission went 218 and yours didn’t even go to the warranty mileage. The truck is only loaded with a sled deck and two snowmobiles along with riding gear. So to say I over heated the transmission is not true the trucks not over load. See the picture I add I s from when I left Florida. 100% workmanship failure or maybe it’s your business model to use inferior parts and non-ASE certified mechanics. Only two months out of warranty I feel we should split the cost of the repair bill! Again, if you choose to take your transmission there, you might only get 20,000 miles out of it or you might get 200,000 either way they’re not gonna stand behind the work they do!!! Just wanted to update this post. I picked up my truck and drove back down from Canada going over the l Grand Teton Pass with the same load and no over heating and drove back to Tampa. So again sure does seem like to me the failure of the transmission that was installed by First Gear was not rebuilt to any standard.

Expect To Come Back (Not In A Good Way) I asked a local Jeep group who was a good mechanic in the area and numerous people told me about Firstgear. I gave them a call to get both our differentials serviced & both leaking pinion seals replaced. Everyone was friendly, the price was good, the work performed looked great, & they had it done in half a day.. which was all fine and dandy. Unfortunately however the seals started leaking after a little over 3 months. When I gave them a call they said that was normal wear and tear for off roading, so I just decided to go elsewhere. Especially when I knew I hadn't been off road after the work other than some dirt / gravel national forest roads. I had to have the work redone at another shop and those seals were still good when I regeared almost a year later. Not only did I have problems, but unfortunately before our seals went out I recommended them to two of my buddies. Both of which had to go back several times to get things corrected after they did the work. One was a whole transmission rebuild.. not like it was a cheap bill. I would NEVER recommend this shop. I decided to come edit my original review after those experiences and it pains me to do so as they were friendly and a small shop, hence why I left 2 stars still.

These are good people. They know what they're doing. The Owners are great and it's a family business. The guys in the shop are top notch mechanics. I had my Jeep re-geared with a full master-rebuild kit from Yukon Gear and the shop, threw in the Yukon, Nodular Iron Differential covers; for the SAME price, another shop wanted, without them. After the 500 mile break-in of the new gears, I changed the gear oil and there was only the normal amount of metal in the oil, that is always associated with new gears. With a fresh batch of oil, the gears are still nice and quiet after another 1,000 miles! It's nice to spend your money, with people who know what they're doing!!! I asked them to look things over with the Jeep and give me an estimate of what they felt were important issues to address, in the future. They did, and the estimate is very reasonable! Larry, (owner) showed me around the shop and walked me through their normal, transmission rebuild procedure and I think, it's as good, if not better, than anyone else in the business. I'm an industrial mechanic with 35 years of experience, and I can tell when people are guessing and when they are knowledgeable about their trade. These are good people. They know their business. Larry, his wife Dawn and daughter Melissa, were a pleasure to meet and do business with! I'm very happy with my experience!
