We found a lot of mold under a hot water unit in a house in San Jose. Our certified inspector took a surface swab sample from the spot. The sample is now in the lab to check for the type of mold, which might be toxic black mold (Stachybotrys). If you do not see mold, you can still be at risk. Mold can hide behind walls, under things like appliances, and inside HVAC systems.
