If you’re a first-time home buyer you’re gonna want to listen in on this. Let’s take a trip down memory lane.
Not too long ago (ok, 24 years ago, but who’s counting), I was in the same shoes—thinking about purchasing a home when I was 20 years old and took the plunge — yes. I just did it, I didn’t overthink it—into homeownership.
My first home was in Downriver and it had 3 bedrooms. I paid $69K for it. I know, sickening, right 😂😂. I found 2 roommates immediately who moved in with me and helped pay my mortgage.
My 2nd home had 5 bedrooms and I basically turned it into a mini-community with friends who also paid my mortgage PLUS put extra money in my bank account.
I really had no clue what I was doing. I didn’t read every book, podcasts weren’t even around then, YouTube wasn’t a thing. I just knew that I owned a house and had a mortgage to pay. And I found creative (and helpful to my friends, I should say) ways to pay that debt.
Now, I’m sharing this story with you because of some programs available (listen to video) and also to get you thinking outside of the box a little here.
Owning a home early on in your life can be scary, yes. But let’s start thinking of creative ways to own, get some of your mortgage covered and then turn that first home into the next home and that home into the next home with creative hacks, financing and having someone like me who’s done this over and over again for almost 25 years now.
