I did a demo flight with Duke and had an incredible experience. I’ve been interested in getting into aviation and getting my private pilots license and Duke educated me and gave me a great experience. Taught me a bunch, helped me feel more comfortable about flying and got me really excited to explore my options. 10/10 recommend Epic + Duke. Incredible experience, service and education overall!

My friend and I did the discovery flight with Duke, it was awesome! He explained everything clearly and showed us how the systems worked and the full process of a pre-check and flight goes. The flight was really fun and calming. My friend was even able to have the controls for a short time, even start the gradual descent, when we started getting ready. Honestly it’s so fun that the hour trip felt like 5-10 minutes. Turns out Duke is the Flight Instructor there, so if anyone wants to learn to fly and don’t mind the small fee of $158 for a discovery flight with a potential instructor. I say it’s a good way to see if you like your future instructor. Also the plane that is currently being used is brand new and well maintained, so any concern about quality wasn’t needed. Highly recommend!!

Attended the Grand Opening event and took advantage of free Discovery Flight opportunity with Captain Duke yesterday. Duke walked me through the whole preflight process, went over all the things on checklist, and explained the many happenings that went on over the headphones. I'd trust him with my life! Thanks again, Captain Duke, for the awesome experience and for being so calm and cool while I screamed... You're the best!

This is the third flight school I've visited in Utah County, and I have to say—Epic Flight Academy's Provo campus completely exceeded my expectations. I was braced for a massive, intimidating facility, but it felt welcoming, modern, and surprisingly approachable. My Discovery Flight instructor was Duke Shepherd (the site manager and CFI there), and he was outstanding. Duke is an awesome pilot—knowledgeable, patient, and genuinely excited about flying. He made the whole experience fun and stress-free. We flew in one of their brand-new 2025 Cessna models, and he pointed out all the cool features and latest tech while letting me take the controls. Everything was explained clearly, no rushing. Beyond the flight itself, Duke took time afterward to walk me through a detailed cost breakdown, the different training programs, and which path would realistically fit my schedule, budget, and goals. It was super helpful and felt tailored to me, not just a sales pitch. I'm excited enough that I'll be applying to Epic's program in the next few weeks—I'm just wrapping up my medical exam first. If you're on the fence about learning to fly or checking out schools in the area, I highly recommend starting with a Discovery Flight here. Great people, great plane, and a really positive vibe. I did a discovery flight with flight instructor Duke. The flight was a blast, but Duke really took time to make it extra incredible. He asked some questions to see what kind of experience I wanted and he delivered. Told me everything he was doing the whole time, super patient and informative. Walked me through everything. Immensely enjoyed the experience, which is saying something because I'm very introverted and don't care for chatty strangers. It was very comfortable. 10/10 would recommend. Thanks for the great flight experience, Duke.

The instructor Duke was very knowledgeable and friendly. He was able to explain things simply, and we had a super smooth flight. Definitely recommend checking out Epic if you're interested in flying!

When I took a Discovery Flight with Duke it was amazing! I’m extremely new to the aviation world and he was kind enough to walk me through everything and answer all my questions that I had. Definitely would recommend if you’re just getting into aviation!

Duke is an amazing flight instructor! If you’re looking to learn more about a possible career in the airline industry and the steps that lead there including PPL, Insturment rating, etc. he’s your guy! I appreciated his honesty about cost, education, and scheduling. He provided great information without the pressure to enroll I would generally expect! 10/10 experience!

Duke was an amazing instructor and guide during our visit to the flight school! He took the time to show us around the facilities, answered every question we had, and made us feel completely comfortable and excited about aviation. The discovery flight was incredible — Duke was professional, patient, and clearly passionate about flying. He explained everything as we went, making it easy to understand and a lot of fun.
