What is burning mouth syndrome or oral dysaesthesia? An unpleasant sensation in the mouth with a “burning” feeling often on the tongue (as the name suggests), this is often a diagnosis of exclusion (that is, a problem not easily ascribed to any underlying cause). It is important to exclude potential confounding problems such as reflux and fungal infections. Once the diagnosis is established, treatment can be started to help settle things down.
