I am as old as dirt and thought I knew it all. I have had a gas fireplace for 20+ years and thought that servicing was not required as gas does not produce the creosote that wood burning fireplaces do. I noted that the fireplace flame was surging to the side and decided to contact EGF for servicing and was shocked to find out that servicing should be done annually. When Fireplace Technician Hari opened the glass frame out of the fireplace he called upon me to advise that the frame was not properly sealed into the bottom seam. This not only had the potential of leaking carbon monoxide it also was the cause of the flame surging to the right. I am thankful that I always have a CO monitor in the vicinity of the fireplace. Hari was able to call up the specifications on our fireplace on his phone to ensure all electrical ignition and gas components met the specs. He also arranged the rocks I have set in the fireplace to meet manufacturers specs. Important to note that I should have had this education when the fireplace was installed. Hari is a valuable asset to EGS and I will ensure that I service every year from now on, he noted that they offer discounts in the summer.
