Such a unique and wonderful experience at Eco kitchen!! Neelu and Shani are 2 wonderful women and an amazing team when it comes to teaching you how to cook the traditional Sri Lankian meals! And soo skilled?! You HAVE to see them cutting the vegetables, it’s so impressive. They explain everything so well and you get to try everything by yourself. Whether it’s stamping the rice out of its shell or trying to separate it with the special tools. It’s so much fun and Shani is always capturing the moments for you to have the perfect memories !! The group sizes are also very well chosen (we were 5 people) and eating the food you cooked yourself feels like a reward especially when it tastes as good as it did in our class! I ate 2 full plates and we still had plenty of food. Would love to come back one day :) (and see their puppy lily again!)

My fiance and I did the cooking class with Nesu and Shani (mother and daughter) whilst we were staying in Sigirya and we were absolutely blown away. The kitchen is at the rear of their home and everything is cooked over fire using coconut shells. The setting is unreal! It was a brilliant, immersive experience where were shown how prepare rice from the husk. We also made 3 different curries, dhal, numerous salads, sambas, and coconut rice. All of the ingredients including the spices are grown on their land, and you can tell by how they taste! When the course is finished you then get to enjoy the most extraordinary meal which you have helped prepare. The best thing about the experience is Nesu and Shani who are the warmest, kindest people. A truly unforgettable experience. Please, if you are in the area make sure you go and do this.

We had an amazing time learning how to cook authentic traditional Sri Lankan food. The family are very friendly and make the class a very fun experience. The food is amazing and fresh from their garden. They also provide photos and recipes after the class for you to continue to share at home! We had the best time and would highly recommend!!

I asked our guide to arrange a cookery lesson as I am very interested in learning the basics of an Sriracha Lanka curry. The guide came up trumps with this cookery class with a mother and daughter in a home in a rural setting. She has us all participating in chopping up the vegetables and then cooking the curries. It was great fun as well as being very interesting. Lovely people and the daughter was a dream. Food all turned out great with about 8 curries for lunch. This is a must do on a trip to Sri Lanka.

Nilu and Shani were absolutely brilliant from start to finish. They were incredibly welcoming, they made us feel so comfortable. All of their ingredients are homegrown even the rice and coconut oil! We were so impressed with all of the fresh vegetables and spices. We dehusked rice in a traditional Sri Lankan way and prepared so many dishes whilst being taught their proper Sinhalese names. It really was the whole package! Shani took photographs and videos through out so we can look back at the memories and recipes when we get home. Do not eat before coming to this cooking class because you will make such a delicious feast! Thank you so much Nilu and Shani.

We had the most amazing experience learning how to cook traditional Sri Lankan food at Eco Kitchen. All of the food was grown at their home and the hosts were amazing, so friendly and lots of fun. They even took lots of pictures and videos for us so we could enjoy the experience and still have pictures to look over after & share with our friends and family. The food was AMAZING and the hosts sent us the recipes to make at home. Can’t recommend this place enough, an absolute must on your trip to Sigiriya ♥️🇱🇰🥘

What a diamond in the rough experience this was. Neelu and Shani, mother and daughter duet, worked so well together involving all participants. Result was sumptuously good food fresh from the kitchen to the table washed down with ice cold beers. A must do experience for all you FOMOs out there!

Amazing cooking class, had so much fun and learned about the traditional Sri Lankan rice & curry!! 10/10!! Cooking class by mother and daughter, both so sweet and clever! If you really want to support local strong independent women, you should go here for a amazing class. After the class we ate the prepared food, wich was amazing. Also asked the day before the class if we could make a chicken curry (normally they do only vegetable), and that was no problem!

Had a beautiful experience today learning how to cook traditional Sri Lankan food! The ladies welcomed us into their home as if we were family and got us stuck in to making so many delicious recipes and showing us lots of techniques we’ve never seen before! The pictures captured all the joy we experienced throughout which is a lovely added touch! I can’t recommend this enough to anyone looking for something like this in the area - Such good value for money and truly delicious food and kind hosts!
