Early last Monday morning, I had to bring my beloved boxer, Manny, to East Carolina Animal Emergency. Unfortunately, his condition was very severe, and I had to make the heartbreaking decision to help him cross the rainbow bridge. As difficult as that moment was, especially being there by myself, Dr. Pendry and her incredible staff showed me the utmost compassion, empathy, and genuine care throughout the entire process. From the moment we arrived, I could feel how much they truly cared, not only for Manny, but for me as well. Dr. Pendry took her time to explain everything with such tenderness and understanding, ensuring I never felt alone during one of the hardest moments of my life. Her kindness, patience, and professionalism were deeply comforting, and the entire team treated Manny with the dignity and love he deserved. I am sincerely grateful for Dr. Pendry and the staff at East Carolina Animal Emergency. They turned one of my darkest moments into an experience filled with compassion and humanity. If I ever face another pet emergency in the future, I will not think twice about bringing my animal here. They were absolutely fantastic, and I wholeheartedly encourage others to support such a caring and dedicated team. Thank you again, Dr. Pendry and everyone at East Carolina Animal Emergency, you will always have my deepest appreciation.

Unfortunately my cat passed at home for a cardiac event or aneurysm right before they opened. I called before they opened by 10ish minutes and understood the receptionists hesitance as they were not open yet and did appreciate the fact that the call was even answered. although I was still emotional and was met with " we do not open until 8 so either you can call back or wait. ". I understood and have been in the veterinary field myself and was just very emotional. Chelsea picked up the phone after I told the initial receptionist well I guess there is nothing to do at this point and was very emotional. This was a very hard one for me knowing there was nothing else I could do and only wanted to ask quickly about aftercare but Chelsea was more than understanding and helped me with my questions and me being emotional and answered even a few moments before opening. Everyone was very transparent that I encountered and they got me straight into a room when I came in with my cat so that I did not have to sit in the lobby and cry. The tech/assistant that came in the room to handle after care was very understanding and let me kiss her and pet her before he took her back. I appreciate the care and understanding after the initial call and understood the initial phone response with them not being open just yet. Overall not being able to get into my regular vets and them being open after hours saved me an even bigger heartbreak. Thank you! Edit to update- I really want to thank you all for the beautiful card and ink paw prints. It really meant the world to my husband and I as well as your excellent care for Opal despite the situation. Thank you all!

ECAE gave my family and I peace of mind. Our sweet Basset had spinal surgery last summer so when she started army crawling and tucking her rear end tight I was so upset she may have tweaked her back again. We took her in as soon as they opened and we were met with compassion and support from multiple staff members. They were transparent from the beginning. It is so nice to have them in our small area where emergency care is not readily available!

We were in and out in less than an hour. They were so sweet to my drama llama. Their prices are quite reasonable consideline they are an emergency vet. Highly recommend, even for the not quite an emergency situations. Maxx's regular vet isn't open on Saturday, so when he started being dramatic Friday night, I didn't want him to wait until Monday for relief.

I had to take my Chihuahua Faith in on May 31st, 2025 because she was having trouble walking and keeping her balance. I was impressed with them from the phone call with the receptionist, to checking in and then being seen by the veterinarian. Dr. Pendry was amazing and so good with my little girl and I felt completely confident in her. It turned out that she was diagnosed with Vestibular Disease (doggie vertigo). I would highly recommend trusting them with your pet in an emergency! I was pleased with the care that Faith received. Thank you Dr. Pendry and staff! She's been doing great since our visit. šŸ™ā¤ļø

Dr. Pendry has a great team!!! We arrived right before they opened with our standard poodle, Finn, presenting with signs of having eaten a toy or GDV. Unfortunately, it was bloat, but Dr. Pendry & the team got Finn back quickly for surgery. We went home for the night, I received a call promptly when he was out of surgery. I brought out food for him, & was invited to see him! It was a relief to lay eyes on Finn. Dr. Pendry called first thing in the morning with another update & invitation to come check on Finn. His surgery & recovery went so well we were able to bring him home before originally expected.

We had a sick feral kitten and the wait wasn't a long as I anticipated for emergency. They had a few, more urgent, emergencies and were great about communicating with us instead of just leaving us to sit. All the staff were kinds and courteous. They took great care with our, Kylo and although he is FIV positive, he is doing wonderful and growing into a beautiful cat. Loving a life he wouldn't have had. Thank you for caring and being so compassionate. The fees were based on the income of our area and were very reasonable. They did suggest they wanted to eventually increase hours of operation. Fortunately, we have not had the need for an emergency vet since. I tell people about them. It's great to have them in our area. Many pets have not survived because the emergency vet was such a distance away. Let's support East Carolina Emergency so they remain in our area.

Dr. Pendry and her team are truly amazing. I travel a lot for work and anytime I am in a smaller town, I worry about what I would do in an emergency if my little one needs care. I am so grateful for this hospital. Dr. Pendry is one of the kindest, most sincere doctors I have ever met. Her team likewise is incredible (extra special shout out to Angela). Not only is the team skilled and efficient but they take the time to educate - something I am also very passionate about. Costs is always a concern but I was pleasantly surprised at how affordable things were here. I come from Colorado where even ā€œroutineā€ visits can run over $400. This place has all the bells and whistles of a major metropolitan hospital with a like-family true southern hospitality staff.

They were very thorough and listened to me patiently and very very good with my shy little scared dog. He made the vet a new friend once he was done being treated for an emergency. And his littermate brother made friends during the visit with the vet also 🄰

The staff and vet are absolutely amazing! They went above and beyond to try to save my fur baby. I am not sure I have ever experienced the care and concern from a vet that they showed me and my baby. They were personal and truly went above and beyond like he was their own baby. I cannot recommend them enough!
