A new study shows Americans are increasingly turning to AI for car insurance decisions. Of 3,002 drivers surveyed, 42% have used an AI assistant to search for insurance, and 86% trust AI to guide the process. AI is especially popular for comparing quotes, with 76% relying on it. Younger drivers lead the trend—60% of Gen Z have used AI, compared with 20% of boomers. Adoption varies by state, from 55% in California to 34% in Illinois.
About 39% would let AI finalize a policy if it saved them money, rising to 68% when savings hit $1,000. Over half believe AI compares quotes better than human agents, and many Gen Z drivers think AI can even outperform humans in customer service. But trust drops with high-stakes decisions: only 40% trust AI to approve claims, and 38% trust it to determine fault. Americans welcome AI’s convenience, but still want human oversight for serious outcomes.
