ELBOW LIGAMENTS
◾The MCL is made up of three components:
1. the anterior oblique ligament (AOL),
2. the posterior oblique ligament (POL).
3. the transverse ligament (TL).
Although the entire ligament is important in stability, the AOL is the primary restraint and stabilizer of the elbow to valgus strain. It is tight in extension and loose in flexion.
◾The lateral collateral ligament is composed of:
1. the radial collateral ligament (RCL),
2. annular ligament (AL),
3.lateral ulnar collateral ligament (LUCL)
4.accessory lateral collateral ligament (ALCL).
The LUCL is believed to have a role in posterolateral instability, although other factors, such as increased elbow flexion, also increase the degree of rotatory instability.
