Lara at her routine dental checkup with @doctortayara @drmichaelsdental .
Lara has trauma related to her mouth due to an old malpractice which also resulted in her picky eating. That’s why Dr Rafif with her style& experience built the needed trust with Lara to be able to clean her teeth and check them routinely.
It’s very important to establish a trust relationship between your child and their medical care giver, it will help avoid much meltdowns, resistance and most importantly for me, it teaches them values around consent and body boundaries.
I also appreciate how Dr Rafif listens to my concerns when it comes to Lynn and her rare condition and possible implications it has on her mouth. She’s always open to these conversations and actively researches the medical literature around it. I’m very lucky to trust that she’s my child’s advocate as well, as we both navigate this rare condition with all its challenges.
