Thoracic Syndrome
As part of our wellness series, 'Prevention is Better Than Cure', today we will be exploring the condition known as Thoracic Syndrome
Did you know chest pain isn’t always from the heart? Stiffness or nerve irritation in your mid-back (thoracic spine) can also cause chest tightness, discomfort, or even rib pain. Improving posture, stretching, and gentle exercises often help.
Thoracic Syndrome means problems that arise from the mid-back (thoracic spine) area. When the muscles, joints, or nerves in this region become stiff, irritated, or compressed, it can cause pain that may spread to the chest, ribs, or even arms.
This is why sometimes chest pain isn’t from the heart, but from tightness or nerve irritation in the back.
Common signs:
Mid-back stiffness or pain
• Chest tightness or discomfort (often mistaken for heart pain).
• Pain that worsens with posture, movement, or deep breathing.
• Sometimes tingling or numbness in ribs/arms (if nerves are compressed).
• Pain that radiates into neck and arm.
