PCOD (Polycystic Ovary Syndrome) is a common hormonal disorder among women of reproductive age. Symptoms can vary widely among individuals, and not all women with PCOD will experience every symptom. Common symptoms of PCOD include:
Menstrual Irregularities: Irregular menstrual cycles, such as infrequent periods, prolonged periods, or unpredictable bleeding, are common in PCOD. Some women may also experience amenorrhea (absence of menstruation).
Ovulation Issues: PCOD can cause irregular ovulation or lack of ovulation, leading to fertility problems.
Hyperandrogenism: Elevated levels of male hormones (androgens) can cause symptoms such as hirsutism (excessive hair growth on the face, chest, or back), acne, and male-pattern baldness or thinning hair.
Polycystic Ovaries: Enlarged ovaries with numerous small cysts (fluid-filled sacs) may be visible on ultrasound, although not all women with PCOD will have this feature.
Weight Gain or Difficulty Losing Weight: Many women with PCOD struggle with weight management. Weight gain, especially around the abdomen, is common. Losing weight can be challenging due to insulin resistance, a common feature of PCOD.
