Why clinical examination is very important in Medicine and allied subspecialties especially Rheumatology and Neurology.
We saw this lady Rheumatoid Arthritis for long but current problem was she was bed ridden for last 3 months. Could not walk to even washroom. She came in wheel chair. Family had visited almost all primary specialities, all alternative medicines they had tried.
She had swelling in all the joints means arthritis was inccreased, but to our surprise her knees and arms were bent to almost 45 degree. There was marked rigidity(Stiffness) in all the limbs, likely a neurological problem called EPS.
We immediately started her on Arthritis treatment and simultaneously our Neurologist started her on treatment for EPS.
And the results were amazing after 3 weeks she came walking. The smile on the face of family was amazing, they were told that she will never walk again in life.
Clinical examination helps us to differentiate from what it looks like to what actually it is, like in this case the neurological issue was because of one the medicine which she was taking for long and treatment reduced this rigidity and made her walk again.
