ACUTE GOUT
Gout is the most common inflammatory disease usually seen in men more than 40 years of age. The risk factors for gout include obesity, certain dietry factors like red meat and sea food, some medications and kidney disease. The Acute attack is characterised by the patient as "worst pain ever". The onset of attack is abrupt, starting usually in morning or at night and resolves in weeks to days. Initial attacks are monoarticular and restricted to lower limb usually ankle or toe. If recurrent it can involve many joints including hand joints and can lead to tophus formation.
