Lawmakers demand abortion reform for Northern Ireland
A cross party group of British and Irish parliamentarians have written an open letter calling for reform of abortion law in Northern Ireland. They say current law breaches rights equivalency as set out in the Good Friday Agreement and breaks human rights laws. The signatories urge Westminster to set out an explicit legislative timetable to repeal the Offences Against the Person Act 1861, the British legislation upon which Northern Irish abortion law is defined, as a first step.
