A survey for the Chartered Institute of Procurement & Supply reveals that one in ten UK companies are using suppliers that are failing to pay the minimum wage. The government's adviser on enforcing labour laws, David Metcalf, has called for new powers to stop the violations, including seizing goods temporarily, pressuring big brands whose suppliers are acting illegally, and imposing stricter rules to ensure that no public money goes to companies whose suppliers are breaking the law.
