Horrible experience
TLDR: If you want horrible workmanship and bad customer service, go here. Otherwise go with somewhere like Home Depot, we did in the past and was in hurry this time so went with Discount Carpet and Flooring and deeply regret our decision.
Background
We are planning to sell our 2-bedroom apartment and got Discount Carpet and Flooring to help us change the carpets of the 2 bedrooms. The job was not well done with loose edges/corners, we didn’t immediately notice them as carpet trims were left all over the floor and the installer left all the extra for us to throw out. We had professional cleaners coming in a few days so figured we will do a more detailed check afterwards.
Unwillingness to Address Issue
After the cleaners came, we were able to see clearly spots that were not done properly. We contacted the store many times with pictures provided and were told that the carpet installer would contact us – he didn’t, and we kept following up with the store and they just continued to say that the installer would and later stopped answering all together when I tried to call. We eventually remembered that the installer called us the day of installation so we called the number back and the overall attitude was bad, he acknowledged that Discount Carpet contacted him but didn’t say why he never tried to reach out until we called him about the issue. When asked if this will be part of warranty (1 year of workmanship is guaranteed per the invoice provided), he insisted that he must see first because it did not look like that when he finished the job (without any photo proof aside from straight denial).
Greedy Dishonest Installer (Al-laham or Moe)
He finally came and insisted that it would be impossible that he left the job site like that (again with no proof to support himself). It really was just very disappointing at this point as we never wanted to make it a big deal, we can understand that sometimes a job is not well done, and people have to come back and do small fixes and we have been trying to be patient throughout the entire process. However all the installer wanted to do was turn this into extra billing. We mentioned that there is a warranty, and we should call the store together. He called but didn’t want to put the phone on speaker so everyone can speak, instead he just walked away to speak privately, upon return he started looking for new excuses claiming that this job was finished over 2 months ago and we are only calling now, to which we reminded him to look up the invoice again. The installation date was August 12th and today is September 11th and we have reached out over a week ago about this. Then it just got worse, the installer must have been overwhelmed by facts and just claimed “I will leave if you can’t be respectful”. We were continuously disrespected throughout the process but it was the installer who decided it was too much.
Rude Owner
Called Discount Carpet again to inform them that the installer just decided to leave. About 10 minutes later they called back and said he would come back and fix it, which we kindly refused as all trust was lost and we didn’t feel comfortable in letting him back into the apartment anymore. We asked about the possibility of having another installer come fix it instead. The person on the call said she had to ask the owner to call back.
Another 10 minutes later, the owner called and said the only resolution is that I let him come back and fix it because the installer is legally required to finish what he started (interesting we are on the receiving end of that conversation, shouldn’t they have had this conversation with the installer before they came back?). At the end, the owner said that it would cost him another $400 if a new installer was sent so he wouldn’t do it and was trying to force us to let the original installer back while we expressed how uncomfortable we were. At the end he asked, “do you need me to teach you how to handle the situation?” which was also totally uncalled for. So overall extremely unsatisfactory interaction.
