Seal coat is a sealant that is applied to protect the asphalt on your driveway, walkway, or parking lot. Sealcoating prevents water, oil, UV rays and other elements from penetrating into and destroying the pavement. It also provides a nice resistant surface for cars to drive on and makes it easier to clean up leaves during the autumn months.
If you are considering sealcoating your property, there are several things you need to know before starting the process. These tips will help ensure that the sealcoat goes on smoothly and doesn't cause problems down the line.
Wait for the Right Temperature
Ensure that sealer is applied at the right temperature, typically from 50 to 90 degrees Fahrenheit. If it is too cold, then sealcoating won't bond well with your pavement surface, and if it is too hot, the sealcoat will dry before you have even had a chance to apply an adequate coat.
When in doubt, err on the side of caution and sealcoat during a warmer time of year, which should be sometime in summer. If a sealcoat isn't applied when these conditions are met, it can result in a bumpy or uneven finish that doesn't last long at all.
Clean Your Pavement
When sealcoating for the first time, you will need to clean your pavement well before applying sealer. This is important because any dirt or debris can prevent sealant from properly adhering and bonding with your asphalt. Once your pavement is clean, allow it to complet
