Knocked-Out Tooth
A completely avulsed — or knocked-out — tooth represents one of the few true time-critical emergencies in dentistry. The window for successful reimplantation is narrow: ideally within thirty minutes of the injury, and significantly less favorable beyond sixty minutes. The survival of the tooth depends almost entirely on how the patient handles it in the minutes immediately following the trauma. The tooth should be handled by the crown only, never by the root. If contaminated, it should be rinsed gently with clean water — not scrubbed, not dried. It should be kept moist at all times, ideally in milk, saline, or held carefully between the cheek and gum while the patient is transported to the dental office. At Dentist of Aventura, we treat avulsion injuries with the clinical urgency they demand. Our team is trained in emergency reimplantation protocols and splinting techniques that give the tooth the best possible chance of long-term survival. We serve patients throughout Aventura, Sunny Isles Beach, Hallandale Beach, and the surrounding communities. If you or someone with you has just experienced a knocked-out tooth, do not search for information — act immediately. Every minute of delay reduces the probability of saving the tooth. Come directly to our office. We will be ready for you.
